Mate is used as a stimulant to relieve mental and physical tiredness (fatigue), as well as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). It is also used for heart-related complaints including heart failure, irregular heartbeat, and low blood pressure.
Some people use mate to improve mood and depression; to relieve headache and joint pains; to treat urinary tract infections (UTIs), and bladder and kidney stones; for weight loss; and as a laxative.
This popular tea contains over 24 vitamins and minerals, 15 amino acids and has a plethora of antioxidants, including 11 polyphenols. Yerba mate tea is often used as a substitute for coffee.
Drinking yerba mate regularly can help the body’s digestion system function more efficiently and has the ability to cure chronic constipation issues by stimulating the body to have regular bowel movements. A study done in Buenos Aires, Argentina at the Catedra de Farmacologia “found that yerba mate induces an increase in bile flow and enhances the intestinal tract.”
